I don't think he was becoming sentient at the end, I think the overton window had shifted so far that even containment-conservatives had to say at least some anti-israeli and pro-white things to retain credibility.

Unfortunately I don't think it's just conservative inc martyrising him. I'm seeing a lot of right wing channels talking about him like mother theresa and all kinds of grassroots memes.
