Let's say nostr had a fully functional discord-tyoe clone. Why would someone use that over say, matrix? #asknostr

(I've never actually used matrix but I see it mentioned a fair amount on here)

Unless it can achieve the same level of privacy that Matrix can, I personally would not use it. But discord like apps are useful for group activities and community, having one that's all tied into nostr would be insane.

Because Matrix is just an IM ... does it have a community feature? 🤔

I believe it does have private communities.

So yeah, asking why you would choose a nostr private community when/if it's properly built and functional over matrix for that purpose? Simpler login? 🤔

Can't think of any real trade-offs except as you say, being able to use your Nostr keys

Interoperability, zaps, and data sharing. If you could add someone by a known ID, have data cross the app barrier (like the in-game ID same as chat ID), maybe even do business (imagining gig-sharing, freelance co-op, or something of the sort).

For private groups would you not perhaps have people who would not want a cross-postfoem Identity? In some instances at least? I suppose that could be catered for? No idea tho

Easy to make a new npub, but it would be terribly convenient to not have to if you don't want to. Kinda makes privacy opt-in, but it's not too difficult to run an anon acct. alongside a "normal" one.
