I'm thinking of giving up coffee during #advent. Gonna go down to one cup per day this week to make the transition easier.

The goal isn't to quit coffee completely, but rather to work on detachment from luxuries.

For my #catholic and #christian, how are y'all planning to approach Advent this year?

Hmmm I’ve never abstained from something for Advent only Lent.

Advent is also a penitential season, though the focus is more on preparation than repentance.

In the past few years I've started treating Advent as a mini-Lent. I want to save my Christmassing for the actual Christmas season, rather than be all Christmassed out by December 26th.

How did it go? I ended up giving up caffeine during Advent (and beyond) for health reasons. Sometimes we voluntarily take up a penance, but sometimes, God allows a penance to be imposed upon us by circumstances. For me, it was difficult for a few days, but it's not too bad now.

I definitely missed having a warm cup of coffee each morning, and I felt like I had a little less extra energy, so I just had to be a bit more intentional about how I used my time and energy. I felt like I had to slow down and refocus a bit.

Overall it wasn't too bad. It was a good discipline for me.
