i've found the best strategy for avoiding bullshit on nostr is sticking to paid relays like nostr.land from nostr:npub12262qa4uhw7u8gdwlgmntqtv7aye8vdcmvszkqwgs0zchel6mz7s6cgrkj the nostr1.com relays from nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h and shameless self promotion, wss://realy.mleku.dev - my own personal relay, running off a VPS in sofia
also helps to nag your friends to use these auth-required relays because the only way to stop spam is to raise the cost
if i didn't have these options i would have quit social media altogether, and i have done a lot of work on my own account to provide options for people to run relays that have simple systems to control spam. sadly as yet almost nobody recognises this but i know my buddies are all seeing that my relay works well and is easy to set up. just takes time for the deployments because ... well... i do my best to document my code well and make it easy but it's my hobby not my paid gig at this point, and i'm partly doing it in the hopes that my paid gig guy will monetise my effort by employing me to replace the back end of the chat and forum systems he's already using in his projects. bit by bit. but it's ready, that's why i'm working on a signer to use with it, and currently a big thing is my current fiat mine project needs a protected notification system and i know how to do this, and even though the front end guy is all reluctant they will use the scheme i suggested, because they really can't risk having a spammer attack the notifications system of the server i've built, it would ruin their onboarding.
