After 4 years of homesteading, we finally have what we came out here for. Two new heifers on the farm.

Congrats!

congratulations! They look lovely. Jerseys?

We got a heifer last year, and the dairy that sold her to us (our raw milk dairy) lent us a young bull. The agreement was that we would raise him until he was old enough to get her pregnant. He's just finally figuring out what to do when she's in heat! For a while he bolted right out of the paddock every month 😂

They are brown swiss, dexter crosses. (Very odd combination lol and not ai either).

I'm very interested to see the milk production on them since brown swiss are very high producers and Dexters not so much but our ground lays so wet we needed a smaller cow and they should only weigh out to 800-900 pounds.

Sounds great! I look forward to seeing your updates.

Our heifer is Jersey and the bull is a Jersey/dexter mix, so assuming things work out, the calf would be 1/4 Dexter.

Congratulations

I dream about things like this. Well done.

I hope they produce alot of eggs for you

Congrats!!

Is that how much space they need? Seems small.

They were just there for a couple of days until they weren't afraid of me any more and were used to the location. Didn't need them getting frightened and busting through an electric fence. I plan to rotationally graze as well and they shouldn't need very much space as I improve the pasture and am still feeding some hay. I will eventually be moving them twice a day as they learn to go to a new paddock easily.

And shelter?
