what would solve the problem is more work on dynamic, decentralised replication algorithms... which don't exist yet, ipfs is slow and limited, the only successful protocol that kinda almost works is bittorrent which really says a lot, i hope blossom comes to be the solution for this...

Archives don't have to be decentralized.
It would be enough to have some centralized archives that fetch data from other relays and expressly aim at being archives that preserve posts for as long as possible (unlike most relays, which have no express aim or policy).
The amount of data would, likely, not even be that large (it's just text), especially if you filter out spam (which you may or may not want to do). The price of storage wouldn't be a significant issue.

The point about archiving is actually absolutely correct.
What we do need is one or more archiving relays. Luckily, fetching data from Nostr is much easier than fetching it from mainstream platforms.
I think it could be an interesting project for the Internet Archive or the Archive Team.
It probably wouldn't be too costly, either. It would be acceptable for it to be rather slow and also to have a high latency between when a post is published the first time and when it's available from the archive.

Nostr would be so cool if it wasn't associated with bitcoin. I know the protocol has nothing to do with crypto currencies whatsoever, but the people who use it are predominantly in that world.
This is a cool project though, so nice job!
