Potted up 40 Red Mulberry trees yesterday. I’m trying a soil mix of 2 parts forest soil, 2 parts used cannabis farm coco coir medium, 1 part horse manure compost and 1/2 part worm castings. I still have about 40 black locust and 50 choke cherries to pot up. This is some hard work but hoping to sell them all this fall.

I also got a call from the Oklahoma Permaculture Research Institute about using us as their preferred installer for any designs they work up for clients. I’m behind ecstatic about this opportunity and can’t wait to start working with them.

Congrats! Sounds like you are on a roll😊

I’m trying. 😊

I may need some younger backs to help next time

Super exciting! I love mulberries.

Yes! They’re so good right?

This is awesome! Excited for you and the journey to come.

That’s very kind of you. I’m very excited myself. Seems to be a bright outlook.

I had really good results selling 6’ bare root mulberry on Facebook. $20-30 per tree. If I was planning ahead I would plant them in elevated rows to make it easier to dig up. Pain to dig up from clay soil :)

I was wondering about this. I have a large pile of used cannabis coco coir where I’ve heeled them in until I get around to potting the rest. I was wondering how they’d do if I just left them in there all season.

$20-30 for bare root (less work) vs $40-50 potted (more work).

This is something I’ll need to consider as I grow this.

Yeah, i had starts 6”, 2-3’ and 6’ mulberry. The 6’ trees sold quickly, others were just a here and there. My next property I’ll just have elevated rows of plants. Winter bare root sales. No pots, not paying for potting mix. Just some irrigation. I’ll need to get better at shipping bare root. Etsy has been pretty good with that.

Nice, I’ll be testing out market this year to see what people want. That makes sense though. Most people want that instant satisfaction and it’s no different with trees. I’ve had a lot of interest for pawpaw trees.

Awesome

Are you camping with us Apr 4-6? I know you’re close enough.

Where are y’all going again? I think we actually have that weekend off of softball.

Looking to meet #nostriches in real life? We are!

Join us Apr 4-6 at Lake Wister Quarry Island campground in eastern Oklahoma (close to Texas and Arkansas). There are RV and tent spots as well as cabins. Let @TheShopRat or I know if you plan to join us.

I’ll be there!! Got our camping spot set.

Looking good my dude!

Thanks Fuzzy
