Renegade, question for you.

In Canada, all beef is grass fed and when a package says β€œgrass fed” it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a marketing ploy, as that beef is still finished in a feed lot with feed, before being slaughtered.

Here, if you want to buy beef that is only grass fed, it has to labeled and sold as β€œgrass finished”.

Is it the same in the US? I only ever hear people talk about β€œgrass fed, this and that” ?

Thanks!

Basically yes. Those marketing terms get tricky. All beef, everywhere is grass fed. You can't raise beef without grass. "Finished is the lynchpin, and that's still deceptive at times if someone wants to be shady.

The only way to know is to do your homework and talk to the producer. Ideally form a relationship with a good rancher and buy directly from people you trust.

Thanks! Yeah we’ve been buying our beef and bison directly from ranchers for the last three years, and it grinds my gears everytime I walk by the β€œgrass fed” beef in the grocery store.

Yeah, sadly the whole world is full of cons, and the big guys are great at marketing

Reminds me of when McDonald’s started a company named β€œ100% All Beef” that made wrappers for their burgers. They had the name of this company on their wrappers for cheeseburgers and double cheese burgers.
