#grownostr

Grow just one thing that you eat regularly, even just some pots on your apartment balcony.

Love this tip! I started doing just a couple of tomato plants and some basil. 2 years ago. Last year my neighbor gave me some strawberry plants. This year I’m adding some peas.

It truly becomes addictive, the food tastes so much better.

It really does!

I need to grow some broccoli

Those look amazing😊

"garden culture" aka war rationing

This was because of the Victory Garden initiative. The time for its return is now.

Yes, I love the idea of victory gardens. Anyone can do it.

I don't eat foliage

meat rabbits, quail then. Or grow awesome veggies and trade them for fresh eggs from a neighbor.

In any case, the habit and spirit of food production go deeper than the food itself

Amazing stat if true. Great example of how diets have changed. Hard to eat lots of processed foods if you are eating from your own yard. Living through a period of declining health from the food we eat.

I’m on year 3 trying. 😅 We installed a drip water system. Hoping that helps. We don’t really have Spring weather so nothing ends up producing. I just get a lot of leafy plants. I did manage some zucchini last year.

Growing food can sometimes be challenging. Where we are, the extreme heat in summer makes it very difficult. But having small poultry like chickens for eggs, or rabbits, makes up for it.

It’s so nice to have chickens.

Yes! I am dealing with the same. Very hot summers. Can’t have animals so that’s why we are trying the water system and I will put a shade cloth over most of the area. I’d really love to have some success with my squash and watermelons.

Yes! also most people don't realize that you need very little space for some livestock (meat rabbits, quail especially, or even muscovies in the backyard).

I heard an interview with someone yesterday who grew 40% of his family's calories on 1/3 of an acre.

And along with the sovereignty: time outside, valuable chores for the kids, connection with the soil.
