These last a long time and run very reliably. Max out any specs you don’t want to, or cannot, upgrade later. It’ll help it last comfortably as software gets more taxing over the years. I usually get 8-10 years out of one without any growing pains.

That's what I was thinking too. I've often seen 6-8 year old Macbooks but I've almost never seen other laptops that old.
