I recently listened to Tucker Carlson say the following:

"We accept technological progress as progress when really it's enslavement.

It's destroying our souls and making us crazy and unhappy and dividing us from one another."

I have been thinking about it a lot and I feel very torn.

On the one hand it is clear looking at the world around us how technology is driving people away from eachother, polarising them and creating a lonlieness epidemic. Technology has given the state and corperations unprecedented power to control, monitor and manipulate us.

But at the same time I see technology as being the thing that frees humanity. As being the vehicle that could save humanity from the chains that have shackled people for far longer than any modern technology has existed.

This is newspeak again…the definition of technology is “the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes”. It’s specifically designed to enhance our lives.

Technology isn’t the problem, it’s more to do with the people who think it’s ok to control these technologies for profit and power.

Watch out for these people who manipulate words to create propaganda. 👀

I agree that we have a to be on the lookout for manipulation and propaganda but I still feel like there is a valid question in there.

Is "the apllocation of scientific knowledge for practical purposes" always something that we should strive towards?

Science is good at solving for comfort and convenience but these do not always lead to fulfillment and connection which is what makes life meaningful.

I think there will always be a tension between the two. Technology giving the power to create beauty and cause distruction. And as the power of the technology is magnified so to is the magnitude of the beauty and the destruction.

I don’t think I understand what you’re saying? “Always something that we strive towards”?

I am trying to ask if the persuit of scientific and technological advances are something that is always beneficial. If it is always a goal worth pursuing.

It is an open ended question.

For yourself or for all?

For all.

Can we answer for all? 😉
