Dealing with a very close lightning strike on Saturday night. Took out my DC side of my camper, laptop, starlink and various other things. Local cell coverage is very spotty.

Time for a little unplanned digital retreat.

Will be doing lots of reading, Journaling, and brainstorming.

Be back to doing my show ans publishing videos when I get everything back up and rolling.

ETA 2 weeks. #grownostr #notthegoodlightning #rollwiththepunches

Oof.

I really am trying to figure out non-janky lightning protection.

Any good concepts, other than "lots and lots of copper"?

Yeah. A few, obviously not cheap.

As cheezy as it sounds, "EMP Shield" is a legit company.

I have a message out to them actually to see if it protects against the surge and static discharge.

From what I understand, it should help with surge, but, I'm not sure about the static discharge since that's tricky on a trailer.

Add in the starlink and 100' of Cat6 running to it that is a huge antenna.

Yeah, but there's not a lot of current carrying capacity in a cat6 cable, though.

I saw electricity dwindle to nothing in my apartment, then BANG! (louder than I thought possible) half a block away, then everything came back on. It sucked electricity from the grid! I can only imagine what it could do to an isolated system.

I am pretty sure we got a surge from the grid and also a static discharge through the air. It was super humid and my wife and I both felt tingly when it hit.
