O.P. States that the Rhino was shot legally. My understanding is that hunter tags are sold for older endangered species, and the money from that paid tag pays for the wildlife protection agents to protect the younger/healthier members of the species.

The creation of this market incentive allows the Rhinos to exist into the future. Without a market incentive, no agents would protect them, and starving people will hunt them to extinction.

I'm open to being wrong about this, but this is my understanding and it makes logical sense to me.

That being said, fuck anyone who celebrates a death in this disrespectful way.

My friend there is so much corruption that funds never reach the people that need it. Greed is always greater and the only ones profiting from this are the wildlife hunting tours. Do you know that the Northern White Rhino has been hunted to extinction? Along with southern white rhinos numbers declining at an alarming rate?

The people that live in these areas do not hunt these animals to survive and eat them, they have cattle they feed off so they would never be hunted to extinction due to feeding people. They along with other wildlife are hunted purely for pleasure from arrogant humans trying to feel powerful, hence why they celebrate like this.

Good to know, I'll have to look more into how locals interact (or don't) with endangered wildlife.

Please do, also this site offers a great insight into this.
