I think all of the authoritarian nonsense we’re dealing with now has been decades in the making and many of us are the frogs in the pot of boiling water.

That’s absolutely correct. The roots of this in the US started after World War II.
Nothing new under the sun. It’s what governments do. Bigger the government the more nefarious. US has 4.5 million government employees. That is a big city population in the US.

Me too, it’s always been cyclical. “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
We’re in the good times create weak men part, but we’re coming back up on the hard times, and then we’ll have strong men again. Some people stay strong all along, of course.
