My hypothesis is that no amount of oral probiotics or superfoods like kefir or beebread can restore the microbiome once keystone bacteria and butyrate production have collapsed, and that something like a FMT or adjacent therapy (probiotic suppositories) is required to restablish the microbiome.
The goal of this probiotic #buttsicle experiment it to accomplish the same outcome as a fecal matter transplant (FMT) without having to eat sh*t or do a poop enema.
That outcome would be: implanting keystone bacteria at large enough numbers that they effectively *become* the microbiome of the lower intestine.
My labs who ZERO natural butyrate production, which means the microbiome in my lower intestine has collapsed. That lines up with my symptoms and hypothesis that recieving strong antibiotics as a child (for surgery) decimated my gut.
By implanting keystone bacteria in massive numbers, and feeding that bacteria #sunfiber, I hope to reboot butyrate production and restore normal functionality to the colon.
Fecal matter transplants and probiotic suppositories are likely the future of GI functional medicine for anyone who has struggled with issues for decades with no real progress, which ends up being most people with real GI issues.
I am running this experiment for myself, but also because I know how common gut issues are and how little real help there is out there.

One thing I know for sure, after that one time of taking a dump at a terribly peppery smelling pit toilet at a roadside rest, my poop never smelled the same again
Glad this is working for you. I suggested FMT to a relative who has lots of lower bowel issues and she found it so appalling that she rather suffer in pain. "My doctor never suggested this" (appeal to expert).
Too early to say. Some good signs so far.
When I looked into probiotics I found that a lot of the strains provided in products are neutered versions of the real human strains. Many like the poster child bacteria L Reuteri produces an antibiotic that kills off the shit stuff you don’t want, they can’t actually sell you that, they sell you a modified version & they don’t make this clear. Just a tidbit since you are going down this rabbit hole.
What health issues is this meant to address?
A wide range of digestive/colon issues. It's a key root cause remedy.
Fascinated to hear more about long term results and benefits. You’re spot on, there’s little to no help in modern medicine for this broad condition. I suspect the same cause as you for my system, decimated long ago by powerful meds. Thanks for doing this and sharing.
