Keet seems very cool, but I have yet to hear any devs who truly understand how it works / recommend it. The general consensus is it seems like black magic. It may be as amazing as they claim, but I would just be careful about posting any sensitive information there.
And central servers are not inherently bad for communications, they offer many benefits. Signal is a great example.

Nostr DMs are currently not at all secure. But there is a proposal to bring Signal-like encryption to them (it will still be up to Nostr clients to implement that)

Yeah bro I saw the accusations. I have no knowledge of her reputation or her ethnic or religious background, or why that is of importance to you.
But I am fairly confident that Signal was built before she had any involvement. And I am certain that Signal’s open source protocol and client encryption has been scrutinized by many of the smartest cryptographers and developers around the world, and is generally recommended.
So you blindly trust people? Her being a shady Jew with a shady past is a red flag. I would avoid any Signal app

Cool. For a long time I know that Keet source code itself was kept closed source, and only the underlying protocol was FOSS. Did they open source the Keet application code?

most of the application is the 'protocol' code which is open, but the ui and some other parts are not open yet
how it works is apparently not that complicated, you can browse a lot of the not yet open code in keet still, i know someone chatting on keet was exploring a beta version of a module called autobase before it was open sourced and worked out how it works, it is central to how the rooms run https://github.com/holepunchto/autobase

Holepunch (FOSS product of Bitfinex) is the source for how keet is built. Keet app is not FOSS.
Been using for years on & off and its still in the same state as when Guy & I found it years ago.
