I wonder if anyone has tried using a feature phone for BTC in U.S.?
Used maybe just to Spend bitcoin at store, or to Send bitcoin.
I think this needs to be done for disasters / bad governments.
I have not yet seen someone try to replicate this in the US yet, but there are definitely options like broadcasting via satellite and radio waves to LN node operators to keep your bitcoin network connections even if your internet provider cuts you off
Yeah, I think the system they use for feature phones is different in Africa, so this will work.
Ive been thinking about this more bc of state of the world or censorship. With the setup your talking about, I guess you still need a satellite connection, electricity for PC, and a mesh device, and a close node.
Just got Machankura a few days ago. For SA, it's a game changer. It opens up just about all of Africa to Bitcoin.
Absolutely, as long as the telcos don't shut it down and Mach doesn't need to go through some grey routing to maintain their USSD and SMS comms with the LN node they can keep onboarding people.
I would like to see additional options like eCash backends and maybe even eCash federations or your own LND-hub setup so you can build this for your community, will be great for stokvels and buidling circular economies
When I start a lightning node, I'm quite keen to provide wallet function to people in my area with LNBits. Been looking at it seeing lots of possibilities. Also some potential for offline transactions
