It's the unit is the vibrational energy within a solid crystal structure.

It's kind of a particle, but only as a calculation of energy carried through the structure.

Sounds like a frequency but the word frequency is too predictable, IDK. So much to learn! One can dream.

Essentially, it is. But each phonon represents a different frequency.

When the structure vibrates, it does so at a seemingly chaotic series of frequencies at the same time. (Multiple, interacting phonons)

A note of difference between photons and phonons-

Phonons of different wavelengths interact and mix with each other, unlike photons that generally do not.

Talk about Heisenberg uncertainty.
