I’m watching this now (at least I hope it’s the right movie) and it feels incredibly slow and boring. Just a bunch of classical music 🤣 and super slow scenes. Is this the right film? Why was it hyped so much? Or should I continue watching to find out? I find myself wanting to skip most of it 😔

lol

tell me you're a millennial without telling me

Do I need to be a gen xer or boomer to enjoy it? 🤣

It's a weird movie for sure. That's why people quote it.

A lot of people didn't care for 2001: A Space Odysee, even amongst GenX and Boomers.

just need to be low time preference lol

Watch the whole thing. Understand what Kubrick was thinking when he directed it. Remember that human space travel was brand new. This is not a science fiction movie. It’s a suspense film, more in the horror genre.

You will sit still, focus, and watch the masterpiece, mister. Like we did in the good ole days.

Yes ser 🫡

Master piece of what?

attention span rekt

😂 what can I say … it’s sloooooow

Next try Star Trek : The Motion Picture 😅

I could watch it on mute just for the beautiful cinematography. I appreciate the pace.

Also, Daniel is right. It's a suspense film. Actually still relevant with all the AI advancements going on.

Alright I hope it builds up fast because I almost want to close it 😆

Gen x here… there are a few movies from that era that just don’t stand the test of time.

Another one is Easy Rider…

Ughh!

Lighting up a doobie helps.

Watch it on x2.5 and then pretend you watched it like everyone else here seamingly. 😛

Did someone pitch it as an action Marvel film or something?

😆

i tend to agree with you, pacing is brutal. But, watching it on a big screen is impressive if you ever get the chance.

It would be nice if it was re-released with all the dead time removed.

Too much media uses short cuts and rapid movements to ramp up your nervous system tricking you into a heightened state of arousal they didn't earn.

Go watch Ghibli instead of Disney. So much nicer to see it earned through plot than strobe lights in your face.

2001 is something many people didn't get on first watch then found they couldn't let go of in their mind after it was over. Kubrick IS messing with you. That pacing IS intentional. Watch "Room 237" about "The Shining" for an idea just how deliberate every bit of what you see in a Kubrick movie is.

For some movies "big screen" and the "movie theatre" experience is a must.

Remember, this movie came out before the moon landing. You have to pretend that the most advanced technologies you have ever interacted with are a television that gets 6 channels and a land line telephone. You have never seen a computer in person or known anyone who has used one. You know we're going to the moon, but have only seen rockets in photos or 10 second clips on TV. You don't know anything about satellites, space stations or orbital mechanics. The only math and physics you know are the bare minimum necessary to do your job. The music you listen too is either classical, jazz or rock'n'roll.

Then, you see this movie. It has to go slow for you to be able to follow it. Not because you're stupid, but because you have zero experience of any of the things going on in it.
