For those who are setting up personal cloud relays:

1) Trolls will `@` their way onto your relay. It's a loophole you should be careful about using.

2) Overuse of blastr will result in relays black-listing or rate-limiting you as spam, and will result in your notes being spread too wide, to keep things up to date or use delete persistently.

3) Use relay-syncing, where possible, including with the personal relays of your frens, relays from your geographic area, or with topical relays like christpill or an OtherStuff relay like thecitadel. But avoid anything too spammy or otherwise gross.

4) Assume that zap comments and reactions from people not on your whitelist might be lewd or threatening. (I know, how desperate can they be, but it be.) Just thought you should know; don't know of any reasonable way of mitigating that, yet. And I guarantee that those zaps are only 1 sat.

5) Consider also having a relay on a device you control, like a laptop. Then you can work offline and sync with your cloud relay, when you go back online. (And this online/offline syncing is the next phase of relay development, and will open up some nifty new use cases, so you'll be ahead of the curve.)

I've been testing blasting, the last few days, using an old npub with a gazillion notes, spread all over the place.

I haven't used that npub in half a year, and it now has notes on relays I no longer have access to, so I can't delete or update that data. Not a terrible thing, but just be aware that blasting all over the place can come back to bite you.

This is how people will end up seeing outdated versions of wiki pages, profiles (including the info about your LN wallet!) or git proposals, for instance. The first version made it in, then they put up a wall (I got caught out with their requirement to use NIP-05, as my old npub didn't have that.) and the next versions are kept out.

I can see that people are looking at the outdated versions because they react or zap those events, and the old version is listed in my notifications.

This is the push I needed

Got my personal relay running 😎 it’s been a while

I have no idea how to do any of this. Bahahaha

nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h has a client for managing the cloud relays he rents out (it's his own cloud, not Amazon or whatnot). You can also self-host and use his client, as it's FOSS.

Oh, I set one up there! I guess I'll have to mess around with settings and whatnot.

Welcome to the club..🤝

I await my tshirt in the mail.

😂

6) Learn to use Wireguard, Tailscale or a VPS proxy if you prefer to run software on your own hardware.

But if I’ve only white-listed my own npub on my relay, doesn’t that solve that issue?

Chronicle protects you from that, unless the mention is within the conversation you are partecipating, and the troll is in the WoT. Actually, WoT would be sufficient.
