Yesterday I had lunch with 2 neighbors. Unprompted they started talking about how banks are screwing them. My eyes lit up as these two seems primed to be unplugged from the Matrix.

The second I said the word Bitcoin, they stiffened up and started to explain how it has no intrinsic value or how it doesn't making something like a business. Which is fine and I countered but what they were really hung up was the NSA.

They believed that the NSA was able to crack seed phrases and could empty anyone's wallet they wanted. I am not sure where they got this idea from as I have never heard this argument before.

Anyone know of good articles I can sent their way showing them that the NSA does not possess that ability?

Let them just feel pain. They will come back crawling. Put your energy in something that makes you happy..

I would just laugh, call them morons and tell them they should study bitcoin

amen

I feel bad, they feel the pain and have some idea they are drowning. I can’t help myself but extend a hand to pulling them up. šŸ¤·šŸ¼

We all do, but over time you will notice it's not worth putting your energy in people who don't want to be helped. If people aren't curious to what you're saying, they won't search after the truth. I've been telling family and friends for over 3 years. Spend hundreds of hour trying to help them. And in the end you realize you're wasting the limited time you have on this earth on people who don't even want to listen..

Horse to Water. I don’t even try anymore

If sha256 can be cracked then any bank account can also be drained, any website hacked, basically zero privacy or security anywhere

SSL relies on sha256

to add to that

its my understanding that a 12 word seed is equivalent to 128 bits of entropy

24 words to 256

i ran some numbers the other day,

might need some checking but generally correct.

barring secret quantum computing or alien tech,

its mathematically impossible.

Well for one, there's no evidence of that ever having taken place. Once you have some understanding of the math necessary to crack just one of the private keys, it becomes pretty obvious that it's not possible with current technology.

Also, if they can do that, what's stopping them from draining your "fiat" bank account?

That’s exactly what I said. They replied that they haven’t decided to take BTC down yet. šŸ™„

There is no guarantee the NSA can't do this with consumer electronics today, but at least there's no evidence of it happening, whereas with bank accounts, the feds not only can but also constantly do fuck with whoever they want

It probably is a lower effort to get over 50% of the hash rate then computing a private key. Just recently read an article how a complex password of 16 characters takes already around thousands of years for a powerful computer. Private keys are much bigger then that.

Do you happen to have a link to that article?
