Anyone on #android know how to set Orbit to TOR route traffic for a few apps, then a VPN service for all other traffic?

I prefer to use TOR when possible, but it breaks some services, so I can't use it for all the traffic on my phone. When I'm not using TOR, I need to use a VPN, because sharing my real IP address with the world is just dumb. On #linux this is easy. On Android, I'm not sure if/how this can be done.

it depends on settings on each app or apk that need to manually config for SOCKS5 - with 2 IPs - 1 for VPN and 1 for Onion.

You cannot run two VPN apps at the same time on Android. The only solution is to set up a VPN on the modem (many VPN service providers have a manual for doing this) and then in the Orbot settings select the apps you want to use Tor.

If you have an always on vpn like mull you can exclude apps that need TOR and Orbot lets you specify what apps you use with it. For example Robosats is an app I use with TOR so its excluded in Mull but selected in Orbot. Lets you run both the VPN and Orbot in parallel.

Badass, thanks. Giving this a shot.

You could use two different profiles. One profile for tor and one profile for the VPN

This has been what I do, its just so slow (and sometimes buggy) switching between profiles 😅

Not possible I'm afraid. I tried that exact setup and unfortunately orbot's "VPN mode" takes a VPN slot in android and you can only have a VPN slot active at a time.

That's why every app should allow itself to be proxied in their settings. That or android can stop being retarded and just allow multiple VPNs with split tunneling like a normal OS.

Tell me more about this. I cannot seem to even start orbot if another VPN is running. So apps that have proxy settings still can't use it.

Are you able to set up another TOR proxy that doesn't occupy the VPN slot?

Jusr using Orbot with an app that allows actual native proxying (amethyst, forkgram, molly antenapod, etc) does not take any VPN slot. You obviously need to disable orbot's VPN mode.

I run that setup with a co-existing always on wireguard vpn without any issue.

Ahhh, I couldn't figure out how to enable orbot without VPN mode. It was hidden as the 'power user' option. Thanks!!!!
