Bird of the day: White-crowned sparrow

Adults have black and white stripes on their head, a gray face, brown streaked upper parts and a long tail. The wings are brown with bars and the underparts are gray. Their bill is pink or yellow. They are similar in appearance to the white-throated sparrow, but do not have the white throat markings or yellow lores.

Love their song. I heard one about a week ago... overwintering bird i guess. More of a May bird here

Not really. I would possibly use if i was birding in a totally new area where i didnt already know most of the species. Ive been seriously birding for about 25 years, not to say i dont sometimes get stumped
