This is very true... How do you feel about the Cgi these days compares to back then?
Depends on it's usage.
Most cgi is superfluous and unnecessary but when it's subtle use can really go far!
Most people rag on cgi, but what they don't realize is more things are cgi than they realize. They just noticed it when it's obviously bad🤷🏽
That being said, one of the first movies I worked on when I got in the industry was this:

It's directed by the guy who's in the alien suit in most of the alien movies. His directorial debut. Being the guy in the suit though, his whole career is makeup and practical effects building, and he has 3 songs working on the film building all the demon wings and effects and making them work. It was really cool
