God never asserted that Israel deserved to be His chosen people, but they are his chosen people, and that is the only material reason other than avoiding getting cursed, to support Israel, whatever that opaque word means.
The question is, without the Temple, what is Israel? Many Christians regard the Church as Israel, not the plot of ground in the middleeast.
