The upcoming Google Pixel 8's are rumored to receive security patches for 7 years. This would be an increase of 2 additional years over the current models.

brought to you by the EU's digital and electronic something something act.

5 years is already more that the android competition has. 7years would be even better. Nice. 😊

I also like their partnership with iFixit... So Cheap OEM parts and great repair guides. ☺️

Didn't know about this. May have to do a screen repair on some of my old ones

That makes sense. Samsung now has better support for their flagships than google, it is time for google to step up their game.

How so? Samsung only offers support for 5 years. Samsung's current support equals Google's. This would put Google ahead, for now. Sammy will most likely follow suit if the rumors are true, just like the last time Google upped support from 3 to 5 years.

Sorry, it was a misinformation on my end. I thought Samsung was better than google for now in terms of security updates.

Samsung has been historically horrible with updates. They've gotten much better over the years though. Cheers! 💜🤙🏻🫂

Awesome I just got a 7

Pixel 7 Pro here. I've always been a Pixel / Nexus guy.

I'm not upset this year though. I need to save for upcoming conferences.

I have 4 more years of security update, so my next pixel phone will be Pixel 12 Pro. 🤙

I don't think phone batteries will last that long, but who knows. Good luck!

Mine is 100% after nearly a year of use.

That's a cool app. Just installed on Graphine via Obtanium. Thanks!

I'm on my fifth year.

Also you can just go to a repair shop and get your battery replaced for like 50-70$.

You could also order it and try to diy.

Not many people keep devices that long but I guess that's a good thing they offer that much support.

I sure wouldn't. The batter life would be horrible. But it's very nice to think that if you needed to do so, you can.

EU is considering requiring manufacturers to include user replaceable batteries.

Trying to hold the costumer under Google control with offering better jail conditions.

Battery definitely won't last that long. Just window dressing.

For the near term you're right, but longer term it depends if the EUs plan to require user replaceable batteries gets ratified.

I still think that extending security patching is a good move.

I’d heavily consider moving back to Pixel ecosystem from Apple if this is confirmed. Last I had was 3a XL

Moving away from magic?

What does that say?!
