Today I am launching a new community, n/sandiego!

My goal in creating this community is to not only #grownostr, but bring the focus down to the geographic community level for myself and anyone else who is interested in following what is happening in this corner of the world.

If the future is truly decentralized, then things that happen thousands of miles away from us should not be our main focus. We have the most power to change the things that are closest to us, yet we worry about what's happening in Florida or DC more than what's going on in our own backyards.

Today in my district of about 675,000 people there is a special election to replace our District Supervisor. I have no idea why he is being replaced. I know barely anything about the candidates. But from what I can gather our choices are between a council member who is being criticized for pushing for police accountability, and a "law and order" candidate that wants more state sanctioned violence.

I was almost going to sit this one out because the amount of hatred here for politics was getting to me. I even threw away my mail in ballot. However I don't think apathy is the answer, especially in local elections. So I am going in to the polling place today to vote for the politician, because the last thing I want to see in my city is more cops.
