Yes for bitcoin! Every time I hear about reparations I just feel hopeless that it’s a good idea but impossible to actually do. The questions in my mind that make it feel like it would never actually work are: Is it tied to a specific DNA fraction that comes from slaves? Or tied to how strongly people identify as a certain group? Should reparations be paid next to the descendants of the first people’s whose land we live on? After how many years are reparations for past horrific injustice no longer due. Why government enforced reparations instead of voluntarily giving to the poor?

Maybe answers exist to these questions that I haven’t seen yet!

Reparations are doing something bad to innocent people today for something bad happening to innocent people in the past.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

What about the Jewish diaspora? How much is owed to them. The Aremenians from the Turks? Gotta have a statute of limitations on these things, horrifically unfair as they were at the time. Can’t be litigating what someone’s great grandfather stole from someone else’s 100 years later.

sounds like the Jews got paid already from the evidence now black Americans 🇺🇸 must be paid simple

Assuming that’s even accurate, that’s 1952, seven years after the Holocaust. Do you know the meaning of Statute of Limitation or why it exists? It’s an expiration date for civil claims because the passage of too much time makes a proper accounting for what happened nearly impossible.

Saying the SOL tolled is not a comment on the merits of the initial claim — they might be highly metetricious. Just after enough time passes, it’s no longer possible to do it justly or properly.

Black Americans 🇺🇸 still suffer from slavery and everything else that goes on in America 🇺🇸 would you like to come on my podcast and have the conversation

Appreciate the offer, but it’s not a topic I’m especially interested in. Just feel like reparations is a dead end for the reasons I said. And the Jews might have gotten *some* civil remedy for the Holocaust, but they were persecuted for two-thousand years, and other races and ethnicities too. Just a non-starter IMO after so much time. Have to settle up recent claims, e.g., the persecution of the unvaccinated, before the SOL tolls on them too.

Also not a fan of treating all black people as “blacks” or all jewish people as “jews”. Your ancestry is important, but you are still an indivdual, not responsible for what others of similar ancestry do, and not one undifferentiated mass of ethnicity. Everyone has a different experience. Not wise to lump them together IMO.

Sounds like you’re coming from a good place, though.

Ok have a nice one 👍🏽

Not letting perfection get in the way of the good, maybe what we can do is rally around everyone in a certain month giving what they think is right to the black Americans they know.

Reparations is the only way for black Americans 🇺🇸 6.2 quadrillion and protected class citizenship

Not that according to one set of calculations it wouldn’t set the scales even again, but sadly, if I had to guess I would say this will never happen. I don’t think average people’s will for absolute justice strong enough. And when giving many lifetimes of income, we really should think about all the other fixing of injustices money needs to also go, maybe we multiply this figure by x to find what really needs to be distributed.

Question, do you know whether the above already paid reparations and this number used the same calculation methodology? I’d guess no? Maybe we can have an intermediate goal of all achieving partial payments to all deserving groups using some agreeable, single methodology. Same % for every group?

I also wonder if that calculation assumes that white Americans only are the beneficiaries, and never black Americans. And whether foreigners are beneficiaries too. I would guess black Americans are to a degree and same with people in other countries?

Cool have a good one ✌🏽

Same! Such a difficult issue. Seems like we need a culture that values less fancy stuff and more fixing problems and helping people in need. Not sure how else we can start to make headway on this stuff 🫂🫂🫂

Reparations is the only way for black Americans 🇺🇸 we tried it all we been here a long time

When you say “the only way” what does that mean?

Google it

Sorry, lots of questions - I’m super curious though 😅

😂 noo you know what I mean. I mean where are *you* coming from when you say it? To what level would you go to achieve it? What level of force are we talking about using? Is there anything short of 6.2Q (let’s say 1% short) that would be satisfactory? For example a purely zero sum / justice based approach could argue that using equal force to the original evils until payment is made in full is justifiable. More likely people believe that as long as 51% of US citizens agree on making that next partial payment, then it’s ok to use credible threat of substantial violence to force the other 49 to pay too.

Looking at the statement from a different angle, it seems that another possible way is to never do anything redress the wrong. So what does it mean to not acknowledge that as a *possible* outcome rather than just a bad outcome?

Another question I have is since “way” is a means to an end, what is the end that reparations are the only way to achieve?

Would you like to come on the podcast 🤷🏽‍♂️

Wish I could, and I appreciate the invite 🫂

Anytime

The racism is real for black Americans @bitcoinforthehood

Not commenting one way or the other on the general state of racism of antisemitism, whatever that might be. Just that like any other civil legal cause of action, there has to be a statute of limitations.

Mark, I hear your concerns, it's a complex topic,

Reparations, man, it's like a mental logic.

Questions in your mind, they're heavy, it's true,

Tied to DNA or how people identify, too?

Should it extend to those on ancestral land,

These are questions that we gotta understand.

Time, it's a factor, when's the moment right,

To address past wrongs, bring 'em to light.

Government, or voluntary, the path we choose,

To heal historic wounds, that's the news.

Answers may exist, still hidden from sight,

But the dialogue's key, to make things right.

Reparations' journey, a long and winding road,

Let's seek solutions, for a better abode! 🤔🌍 #ReparationsReflections

I will answer on my podcast deal

Awesome! I look forward to it!

Just let me know

I was going to say the same thing. Let me know if you cover it in an episode. Also - where is your podcast?
