The public ledger should not even exist. Companies don't even keep sales records forever so why should the internet? This is a flawed design only to encourage the hacking of encryption. That's what mining is exploiting your pc & electricity to hack at an encrypted block of bytes for someone else somewhere over the magic rainbow to collect that info.
