😔

They are a huge problem almost everywhere, but I don’t think this is necessary

There are no coyotes here. What kind of animals eats this carnivore? (except the roadrunner, I saw the cartoon in my childhood)

Around here, i dont know that anything preys on coyotes. Probably why they are such a niusance. They kill alot of small livestock.

Thanks a lot, the fox is similar here

The fox here go after small dogs and cats

And chickens, ducks, etc. at the farms...

why would anyone do this?

Just a misguided belief that it will scare off other coyotes. Used to be common practice a long time ago.

it’s called aposematism

pretty sure I came across a video of an elk on the side of a highway minding its on business…with another male elk’s head impaled by its antlers

I doubt wild animals give AF about

I’m getting mixed up - aposematism is an adaptation animals themselves use to ward off other animals (bright coloured frogs, etc.)

this is just plain ineffective barbarism

I see.

I am not justifying this, but as someone whose family was farmers two generations ago, coyotes can be quite a nuisance. You start losing a significant amount of animals on your farm to one of those, especially when it’s your livelihood, and I can understand the extreme frustration. Probably better ways to handle one’s anger, however.

Very true, they are a nuisance, and we've had issues with them too. Once a coyote chased down our little Daisy (dog), but luckily our other dogs chased him off.

My initial thought was that the person lost a cherished family pet.

Human are cruel

Could they be hanging it for the pelt?

Dont think so. I have seen before, and I think some ranchers believe that it will scare off other coyoyes. Its an old belief, and it used to be common practice in the country. Unusual now though. If it were for the pelt, i think it would be in someone's shop or close to the house.

I killed a deer not long ago that had gotten hung on a fence like that. I think someone made a bad shot on it & it was too weak to jump it - it was all tore up

Hopefully it was deceased before placement

Gross. Waste of a pelt, and an obnoxious display.

I understand this person's plight. Coyotes have taken over half of my chicken flock this year.
