Yes, it’s not like they can’t afford it. They just know they can get away with it because there’s always someone willing to do it for free. Those are apparently the kinds of employees they are seeking.

Yes. I don't even make a second round, paid or not. For me, it's always just one round, one interview, one decision after the interview. I don't even participate in a second round. It worked without problems for decades, but today's HR pussies want to play it safe and avoid hiring the wrong person.

After all, they can easily get rid of the candidate when he turns out to be the wrong fit. And even if not, there is such a thing as 'entrepreneurial risk' they need to get used to take in that regard also.
