i have held crypto on numerous occasions. but i always need the money for something else, so it doesn't stay crypto for long.

Same. You should invest smaller amounts of money that you truly don't need at regular intervals. That's my strategy this time
Why not focus on Bitcoin (the only asset you don't need to trade and babysit all the time)? Stacking on lightning has never been easier. My 6891 sats.
That is often the case for those of us that have enjoyed fairly stable currencies.
