you start typing whatever

I once heard that to overcome writer's block, or just to get better at writing, you must write every day. It doesn't need to be much, and doesn't have to be anything meaningful, but the idea is to "clear the pipes" so to speak for the good stuff to come through.

I like to walk away from it for however long it takes. Going outside preferably, away from aggressive stimuli.

Sometimes by writing knowing I’ll probably discard whatever comes out, and sometimes by doing something else for fun completely unrelated to writing.

Had a great session with an accomplished Slovak writer about the topic. He says to make sure to write regularly but also to have random! breaks, so some physical or outdoor activity that's not timed to specific windows. He gets the best ideas when distracted with something else. Sitting down trying to force it doesn't work for him. Also, blocks resulting in unfinished books are normal, he said he has a quantum of material he never finished and knows he will not. Accept that as part of your journey.
