We store it in our cloud. Privacy + lost device does not matter.

Self hosted? Hmm... I guess I'd need a paid thing...

You have multiple options:

1. Rent a server

2. Buy a homeserver

3. Pay a service (they could sell your data, so be careful)

All have different advantages and disadvantages you shall check for yourself which fits you better.

Maybe you can check mega.nz as a paid service. I think they have some privacy guarantees, but not sure.

It depends. Because, if you rent a server, you can easily do backups, probably even raid, and then a hard disk failure has a lower chance to cause you problems, and anyway you don't put these under the x-ray or so.

I would say, mega is a comfortable option, easy to setup, but you have to trust them.

If they're all small files, just your necessary backup, this would be good. You gotta keep it up to date, there's one single mobile app that syncs to it and it is closed source.
