Yes, but we kinda knew that already

Personal data exposure? How did they fail?

They failed by not letten you be in control. They have all your data to have acces to your funds. Not your keys, not your coins

So then it's actually not self custody? I thought hardware walets are self custody by design. Honestly I know barely anything about it yet. Just learning.

Coldcard or seedsigner is the way to go. Just keep learning at your own pace

Thank you! 🙏🤗🫂

My understanding of the issues with Ledger:

1. It’s Closed Source vs Open Source which is a no-no to Bitcoiners especially people on Nostr

2. They suffered a hack last year because of a bug in their closed source software which raises questions about their code. https://fortune.com/crypto/2023/12/15/ledger-wallets-drained-in-cryptos-latest-embarrassing-hack/

3. Some of their decisions have been against the ethos of Bitcoiners. Like having a recovery tool for your seed phrase. https://www.bitdefender.com/blog/hotforsecurity/ledgers-recover-feature-sparks-controversy-amid-security-concerns/

Overall, I think they’re a company trying to solve difficult Bitcoin issues as a profit making company. But they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

They failed their customers.

Like others are saying here, it's closed sourced. Also, they've been collecting personal data including financial; then bragged about it publicly.
