Dear Americans,

Is this the first time a vice president has had such a prominent role. As far as I've been aware all previous VPs have sat in a back office somewhere waiting for the President to die.

yes we did, not for very long though. I'm sure there was a good reason that stopped.

Trump is out in 4 years. Vance knows the American electorate can’t have a situation where a weak VP is waiting in the wings when the Pres rolls off the top, so he’s taking a more active role. To be honest he came across a lot better than Trump did in that exchange with Zelensky.
