fun fact, the word "is" and the word "yes" are from the same latin root "est"

i learned this after learning a bit of serbian, they say "yest" meaning "it is" (also same in russian)

bulgarians and portuguese shorten it down to "e" like "eh"

oh yeah and "this" is also related, the portuguese word for "this" - este/esta is yes from the same it is root lol

i'm starting to form the opinion that linguists have got it wrong, there is one european language, and all of the ones they classify as languages are just dialects

but that would be an unpopular opinion

Think about czech languaguage. It's a slavic language too. We have word "ano" which translates to "yes".

It's a concatenation of czech "a" (and) with latin "nam" (indeed).
