It just makes things more complicated. Is it in the local currency? Now we have a huge localization and exchange rate issue.

What’s the denomination learnings of operating in multiple localities on this #[4] #[5] ?

I love sats as the standard here. If anything stays pure, let it be Damus šŸ˜„. Display currency options are incredibly useful around the world for paying for fiat-priced items, but I feel like here you learn to zap by the sat.

Amen

I appreciate the feedback.

There was a graphic today that put in our minds that #[6] was tossing quarters at us.

It stresses micropayments because that’s how most people will see that.

I was told people would use bitcoin, but they wouldn’t even know it; maybe that was a lie.

This for sure can be the case. For instance with Stablesats in #[7] you can hold USD value, display it in whatever currency want, and receive (or send) to that balance over Lightning (but you’re just sending and receiving sats).

Displaying in fiat is crucial for enabling circular economies to develop, because converting fiat price to sats all day is a huge hassle.

On nostr, people aren’t pricing things for you to buy, you’re deciding to send a message, a small token of appreciation. Even 21 sats. Wouldn’t hit the same in fiat IMO šŸ¤™

It’s sats definitively in our end right now

Cents would be useful because sats have a unit bias in the wrong direction for tips. Ie: I zap you 21 sats without necessarily computing intentionally that I’m not even sending 1 cent

Could Damus just send WoS a number (19.84) and then the Lightning app take care of the localization and exchange rate issue?

Don’t bother making it ā€œmore approachableā€. People don’t adopt new tech because it finally becomes inoffensive enough to them. If they’re drawn to Damus they’ll figure sats out.
