To be clear I think some of his companies are doing amazing and important work. Having said that, some of his apologists thought it was funny and applauded him having fun. Problem is, the joke isn't so funny (and it hasn't been for a while) when real people end up getting hurt.

Conspiracy theory here:
Musk pushes shitcoins in deference/collusion to/with the US government. He gets US gov contracts. Fedgov gets noobs and marks to buy on shitcoins cuz Musk promotes them.
Eventually the marks get rugged, cry out to US gov for redress, and BTC gets painted with the wide brush and onerous regulations/taxation comes to BTC. BTC price tanks, setting back US adoption for years.
