Did some chainsawin’ with my old man. This is a *branch* that broke off the trunk and fell from about 50 feet up…

So, guessing the “bottom” of the branch was the side where the rings progressively get larger, because of the impact of gravity over time?
i wonder too. interesting how off center the core is.
I wonder about what brought about the obvious asymmetry of the growing pantern of this particular tree?
~47 years in 1 temporal dimension, displayed in a 2 dimensional image of a couple megabytes 🤔
Wow. Any idea which side was up? The center being off center is cool, I’m guessing the center was closer to the sky and the thickest rings were closer to the ground?
Strange you didn’t include the dead raccoon as a reminder of mortality.
It smelled too bad to take a photo…
For those curious, this is the tree the branch broke off from. It lost its top in a lightning strike many years ago, and the branches near the top each started growing vertically and thicker (just like topping any plant). The one that fell was one of these three (now two).
That time preference is 🫶🏻
Trees have such a verifiable proof of work we count time by them.
