This is gonna sound super dumb becasue i use #nostr like its modern day twitter but i always hear things like people building on #nostr… but… what does that mean?? I havent done any reserachint into it at all like i have with #bitcoin so im genuinly asking for some basic info.. either on DM or this post!!?

It’s a protocol so think of it like a set of rules and standards that you can pick and choose which parts you interact with and everyone running the same client can interact with what’s available to transmit notes and other stuff via relays.
I’m not a developer but this is kind of how I understand it. You can program (build) different apps and things on the protocol to accomplish various things, gives a lot of flexibility and opportunity for the developers to make crazy stuff that’s still coming up with funky ass shit like, every single day.
Because Nostr is a protocol developers can build projects that allow users to use their npubs to login to it. Nostr also has clients like Damus, amethyst and primal that need improvements so people build upon it to fix it.
Tech really isn’t my thing so I could be completely wrong 😂😂
There are things like Wavlake (music service)and zap.stream (videos) where you can log in via nostr and stream sats or zap you favorite content. There are also people working on a GitHub alternative on nostr I believe. Those are the ones that I can come up with off the top of my head. Maybe someone else can come up with some more #asknostr
Basically Nostr is as functional as twitter now but it is a protocol that can do a whole lot more. And any developer is free to just do it. So there is a lot more development to go. It is totally possible that Nostr integrates most social apps you use in the future like the smartphone did to a phone calculator and camera. Why not have YouTube, Spotify, twitter, Reddit, wiki leaks, eBay, cashapp, homeautomation, etc combined ? We are just scratching the surface :)
