It does! Here the users correctively moderate by choosing whether or not to engage with content and they usually just take the high road and ignore or mute content that they find distasteful.
Occasionally I see somebody post the word nigger just to see what reaction they'll get. They get no engagement at all usually and eventually they get bored and go back to their racist fedi echo chamber.

At the end of the day, muting things you disagree with doesn't necessarily equate to personal growth. It's likely that around 75% of people have never ventured outside their home state, let alone traveled internationally. This means that in a global context, you'll encounter perspectives that others may not grasp immediately due to living in an echo chamber. My culture is distinct, and if individuals can't appreciate my way of self-expression, then this platform isn't any better than other social media networks.
I love the diversity on here. Bitcoin is the only thing we surely all agree on. I get pushback on my ideas on here from time to time. It's healthy. It forces me to hone my ideas and define them more clearly and succinctly.
