Interesting technique. It would definitely be effective if the attacker were smaller or had forward-leaning weight or momentum.

It really depends on how the attacker's weight is distributed. Many times, from behind, an attacker will pull back and up, so using an attacker's strength and momentum against them is a good idea, a la Aikido, especially when the attacker is physically bigger or stronger.

Learned a lot about leverage and angles training in Wing Chun from my Sifu in SE Asia. But takedowns are a very different beast that I learmed from my former black ops Sensai in the US.

Everyone should have this training.

Yup. Get armed girlfriend and then you don't have to get close and personal with your attacker.

Indeed. Though, sometimes...the attacker is close enough to touch. It's also important to know what to do in that fortunate situation.

In combat training one learns to step back and/or fall back and fire.

In wing chun combat training, they don't let you step back.

Watched the video again. I missed what was happening. I have never tried it against someone doing a middle body hold. I was taught it for use against a chokehold. I have used it in a scuffle and it worked very well but the other person was about the same size as me.

Gotcha. Understood. It's hard to describe these things accurately with words alone. That's legit why my Sifu stopped writing instructional books. Love rear naked chokehold takedowns though. They can be extremely effective in emergency situations.
