If there was a setting in my Lightning node that said "I trust this peer, do not force-close this channel whenever you're starting to sweat you sensitive little snowflake of a node" – I would use it sometimes.

that's a great idea. or add a "fuck it" protocol when two sides of the channel can't agree on a HTLC just drop it and pretend it never happened. instead of FC.

I don't think (other than FC channels to dead nodes) I had a single FC over the years which was actually warranted because of something fishy.
