The great news is that these two desires are not mutually exclusive because one of the main reasons for the lack of affordable housing is the zoning restrictions placed on properties. Zoning restrictions which require minimum sqft housing, minimum lot sizes, and exclusively single family homes are by their definition not free markets and they regulate out of existence affordable housing.
