I know we're all screw-ups. I know I keep going to confession and confessing the same old sins. I know we're all called to be merciful and forgive each others' faults. I just don't understand how the Jews keep taking that theme to such a caricatured extreme repeatedly over thousands and thousands of years despite getting repeatedly punished in increasingly harsh ways. Like you're not even a little cautious even after the Holocaust? Are you really gonna make God unleash a Noah's Ark-level extermination event on you before you even flinch?

Modern ones mostly cope by combining their calendar with astrology and saying "oh both temples were destroyed on the same calendar day 800 years apart? That must be a time of bad luck and waning spiritual energy."

Remember how they always say "mazel tov?" That literally means "(I wish you) a lucky star sign."

Mainline synagogue teachings also hold that God the Creator of the Old Testament was split into several separate weaker god entities who answer to His name, but are mere fragments of His essence and are weaker than the Jewish community at large.
