Interesting.

My car drives itself most of the time, but if I were interested in driving I would probably still buy a Tesla. It accelerates faster than any other car, it holds the road due to the low centre of gravity and it handles incredibly well. It will also take over if I’m about to kill myself.

Some things I’ve noticed from people who enjoy driving. The obvious point is it doesn’t make any noise when driving, which for me is a bonus, but if making noise is your thing, then an electric car is going to disappoint. I’ve also heard some people describe the handling of Tesla’s as flat.

Can you explain what it is about Tesla’s or EV’s that you don’t like as a driver?

Cost mostly. But I also read robopocalypse and since then cars that I don't have full control over kinda freak me out 😂

Me too. I struggle to give it control around town. My wife swears at it constantly cos she thinks it’s not driving like she would 🤣🤣🤣

Lack of OEM parts. Software is not OS. Uploads driver data to Tesla. Judging from my wife's habits with her phone, she would run the battery dead and lose it in the bottom of a shopping bag.

I’m a gas powered vehicle maxi. No thank you to electric vehicles. Give me a beefy V8 with no fancy electronic bells and whistles. Simple but powerful is my preference

Why when comparing a Tesla to say a 1990 ford f150 would you say the truck isn’t simple? There are so many things to break on a Tesla, you often times wait a long time to repair because parts are back ordered including having to use an authorized and specialized technician to do the repair. And you don’t own a Tesla in the same way you would own a 1990 f150. You can do the repairs yourself on the truck, and mod it, and pick your parts OEM or aftermarket and find a ton of technicians that can work on it. So like I said. I’ll stick to my v8 gas powered vehicles and stay away from electric ones. That’s just my preference.

I don’t think the comparison is valid. Electric motors are simple and never go wrong, batteries never go wrong. Their is no servicing required, ever. If you need to get your car repaired it has either been involved in an accident or there was an error made in manufacturing.

We’ve had two minors repairs required (both our fault), the technician came to the car, we let him in remotely, he fixed the problem and left. We were charged for one repair (a broken wing mirror) and the other was complimentary (we hung an umbrella on the charge port release strap meaning it would not rapid charge).

Software is not OS? What does this mean?

No OEM means you cant work on it yourself.

Tesla owns your data and if they want they can shut down your car. OS is open source, meaning we cant know what data is sent to Tesla and no one can work on the software when your model goes out of support

Fair point, but I’m not sure why you’d want to work on it yourself.

Electric cars have no parts that go wrong. The motors last for ever, the batteries last longer than the life of the car.

Classic petrol cars will continue for people that actually want to work on engines, but for most the car will become a functional mode of transport that requires nothing to maintain it (except tyres, windscreen wipers and windscreen washer fluid).

I’ve never worked on any car in my life. That’s what garages are for.

I’m not sure what you mean by life?

If you mean how old? One is 1 year old, the other two years.

For life expectancy, there are Tesla taxis approaching 500K miles and over 10 years old. I think the things that will “go wrong” with EVs will be peripheral components rather than the motor or batteries.

As I said EVs are a paradigm shift. If you want to “work” on cars there will be plenty of classic petrol cars around for years to come. If you don’t want to “work” on cars, then EVs just work.

I would like to have a sensible, serious, respectful discussion with a petrol car lover about why they are so negative about EVs.

If you prefer to throw insults or Ill wishes into the discussion instead, I would at least like to understand why?

I have no skin in the game. I don’t care about cars, but I do use them to travel around and to me, an outsider to the cultural side of cars, I am struggling to understand why a big proportion of car lovers are belligerent and make irrational claims to support scenarios that are simply untrue.

EVs are not perfect and they certainly have their disadvantages, but their advantages, from what I can see, outweigh their disadvantages.

Feel free to give some advantages of petrol cars, or make a rational case against EVs, but if you are unable, a polite refusal is far preferable to insults or derision.
