It's interesting that in European mass-market cosmetics (from Germany, Spain, etc.) there are many potentially carcinogenic ingredients — either because they contain hazardous impurities or become dangerous when interacting with other ingredients — but instead of avoiding them altogether, they are carefully purified to ensure they don't cause cancer. There are special certifications, commissions, inspections… In other words, it never occurs to them to just leave all that junk out of cosmetics in the first place.
I'd love to just say they're stupid, but it's clearly not that simple. They're propping up their chemical industry at the consumer's expense. And if the consumer ends up getting cancer? Well... someone has to support the pharmaceutical industry too. Naturally, it's all at the expense of the poor. You won't find these chemicals and dyes in premium cosmetics.
