I agree with nostr:npub1lrnvvs6z78s9yjqxxr38uyqkmn34lsaxznnqgd877j4z2qej3j5s09qnw5 that gifs and memes are important, both for fun and driving human behavior/motivation which would lend to nostr scaling, but also nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is right that it has to be done the right way. I think we’re knocking on the door of a path forward and can’t wait to see what comes next 🚀

Same on Amethyst. I could use the baked-in file uploader, but I don't want my gifs recompressed by both Amethyst AND nostr.build, so I manually upload to nostr.build, then come back and copy/paste. It could be easier.
Damus doesn’t do any local compression (yet)
IMO for visual artists, it should be an option. A content creator that pays for premium file storage that compresses images should not have to sacrifice convenience for quality.
I understand the fact that 30mb gifs could have a negative impact on UX, and that removing EXIF data is important, but could local compression not be set at a per file type, file size limit, with video staying uncompressed?
Surely to a degree bandwidth is a user issue, not a sane default, right?
I mainly will need to do it because some uploads just fail with public nostr build accounts, bandwidth issues can be worked around via image proxies for clients who prefer smaller media
Understood. But if I were hosting my own data that would be client independent. Files get squished from already small sizes twice. It's a bit of a hassle for creators who don't self host or manually copy/paste media links. What do you think?
should definitely be an option in the client
I agree.

Make it nostr native and have meme attribution+zap splits. Could create an interesting incentive structure there. Wavlake has it for their artists, but memes appeal widely
Thanks Seth 💜
#Plebquestion - Are we asking for something that doesn’t exist yet?
Very exciting ❤️
