I remember a time when desktop email clients were all the rage. There were some really good one's. History doesn't repeat, but it certainly rhymes.

I still use a desktop client and download all mails with pop3 - am i a dinosaur?

Yes, POP3 (and IMAP4) only support password based authentication.

We need to, instead, be using constrained and origin-bound credentials, like with FIDO2 keys
